Double Daisies Bag Crochet Pattern: a creative solution for Summer Storage

Updated: May 6

Woman in a blue dress smiles in a lush forest, holding a brown and pink crocheted bag. Sunlight filters through green leaves, creating a serene mood.

I am really pleased to be able to let you know that my Double Daisies Bag crochet pattern is now available in my Ravelry or Etsy stores.

Annoyed by how uncomfortable it can feel to carry a bag on hot summer days, but still wanting to have my essentials with me when I’m out and about, I set about solving the problem and came up with a bag that has two separate pouches and only a thin strap across the centre, so you don’t have a bag keeping the warmth in between your body and your arm.

Use of waistcoat stitch for the pouches produces a more dense and low-stretch fabric than is usual for crochet and creates a sturdy bag that won’t sag even when it is quite full and the slipstitch on the straps serves the same purpose.

Finally I added decorative shell stitch flaps to close the pouches, a contrast trim,  and an interesting floral swag to finish the project in style!

Why make Double Daisies Bag Crochet Pattern?

Woman in a blue dress stands in a forest, smiling and holding a brown and pink crocheted bag. Sunlight filters through green leaves.

The resulting bag is very sturdy and holds a surprising amount so it could easily become a staple in your summer wardrobe. The strap length conveniently allows it to work as a short shoulder bag and as a hand carried bag and it's easy to make them longer or shorter to suit your own preference, e.g. if it's more comfortable for you to carry it cross body style.

Most of the bag is very simple and relaxing to stitch and the modular construction makes it a perfect travel project. The bag is completed with pretty details such as a floral swag and shell stitch flaps which adds a little more interest to the project. I enjoyed working on the pouches and the other pieces at the same time so I had different parts to work on depending on whether I wanted something relaxing or interesting.

I really enjoyed working with the lovely subtle shades of Drops Muskat DK yarn and seeing the shiny, smooth stitches work up into a very attractive and sturdy fabric.
