Sand Timer Tunic Pullover Sweater Crochet Pattern
This tunic is inspired by a sand timer shape, creating a bold, colour-blocked look in an easy to wear outer garment for woodland walks or lazing at home. I love how ponchos are quick and easy to throw on without crushing sleeves, full skirts etc. and don’t need buttoning up like a coat. But they can catch on things and fly about in windy weather, so I sought to design something similar with a secured waist to prevent that.
This is a comfortable, relaxed garment that’s easy to wear indoors or out and an easy way to pick up on the shapelier silhouettes seen returning to the catwalk in the last few seasons.
The alpine stitch and simple shaping of the top make this achievable for a confident crocheter taking the first steps in clothes making, while the unusual construction could still pique the interest of more experienced garment makers.
**Sizes**: 1 (2, 3, 4) [5, 6, 7] (8, 9, 10), designed with 5 cm/2” positive ease in mind
**Tension**:
Alpine St 14 sts and 14 rows in 10 cm/4”, after blocking in 10 cm/4” after blocking. Watch your gauge in the sleeves. If the weight of the yarn stretches them, work fewer rows in the straight section.
Waistband dc: 12 sts and 15 rows in 10 cm/4”, after blocking.
**Working method**: sleeves and sides are crocheted sideways waistband and peplum are worked in the round. Pieces are seamed and (optionally) edged.

Drops Alaska: (100% Wool), Aram/Worsted, 70m/77 yds, 50g/ 1.8 oz skein or similar yarn. Sample in (same colour used for MC and CC2):
