Introducing Light Laces Scarf Knitting Pattern

It’s a delicate design for a pretty summer accessory, although it could also look great in a bolder colour or a slightly variegated yarn, e.g. a gradient or flecked yarn. The stitch pattern is easy and relaxing to work with plenty of interest from working the lace and cables throughout and motivation from seeing the pattern build with each repeat.

If you like the overall design but the length or width isn't quite right for you or you don't like this type of yarn or the picot border, you'll be pleased to know that I've added customisation tips to help you get the scarf or wrap you really want. I'd be excited to see how yours turned out whether you make it exactly the same as mine or add your own personal touch to the design.

Light Laces Scarf has plenty of texture created by the stitch pattern and is really adaptable for different occasions and outfits. I could equally see this being worn, made in cosy woollen yarn with a winter coat or in a silk mohair to set off a classic wedding guest outfit and of course, it could certainly work well over another handmade like a summer tee or shrug.

The simple stitch repeat and alternating colours and yarn type makes this a fun project with interesting texture. I was really motivated to complete the cables and lacing eyelets every eight rows!

My inspiration for this project comes from wanting a summer scarf to go with a couple of new dresses I'd made. I wanted the project to be a fun summer make with plenty of interest and an easy to remember repeat and it should be cool to wear but with more coverage than some of my lace crochet scarves and shawls.

I set to work swatching and sketching and came up with the combination of lace and cable stitches and the double layer picot edging to avoid the scarf flipping about in the breeze and I knew I wanted a white linen blend yarn to create the finished piece.

I really enjoyed working with the lovely Yarnsmiths Summer Meadow linen and cotton yarn and seeing the lace design come to life. I knew white is a perfect match for summery lace stitches in my wardrobe since making the Lavender Lace Shawl however Yarnsmiths tend to have a huge range of colours , so you're sure to find one you like if white isn't your style.
