Evergreen Poncho in Crochet Now

My poncho pattern on the cover of Crochet Now Magazine

I have been so excited waiting for today! My crocheted poncho pattern has been published in Crochet Now Magazine! Preparing it has been so much fun, right from coming up with a design for the magazine’s theme of show day makes, developing a pattern and seeing the sample come to life in the lovely soft wool yarn supplied by Paintbox Yarns and in the skilled hands of professional sample maker @amanda__makes__ .

For me this is an especially exciting commission as it's my first graded garment pattern and also it was chosen for the cover of the magazine! I was so thrilled when I heard my design was selected but it seems like magazine commissions come along like London buses in groups of three and I didn't want to find myself unable to meet a deadline that I was already committed to so I knew it would be out of the question to make the sample myself. I was very fortunate to find that Amanda was able to take on the sample making. I had admired her beautiful makes since finding her account on Instagram and knew she would be sure to do a good job! We both had so much fun working on this that we want to try another project together, so watch this space!

The model looks so glamourous in it!

I came up with the design and called it the Evergreen Poncho because the twists of the cable remind me of the shiny leaves of the camellias in our garden and how they survive the cold days of winter and the snow while still looking glamorous and I hope this poncho will bring some glamour to your winter wardrobe

Pattern: Evergreen Poncho

Published in: Crochet Now, issue 89

Yarn: Paintbox Yarns 100% Wool Worsted Superwash in Dolphin Blue (1236)

The poncho has a densely worked high collar to keep out chilly winds and paired cables down the front of the body which are fun and motivating to work. It also has a double row of eyelets around the waist so the plaited yarn and faux suede belt can be tied in several different ways including a pretty crossover style. This stops the poncho flapping up and leaving you cold when it's breezy and gives a bit of shape to the waist if you like too.

Crochet Now Issue 89 is on sale in shops across the UK from Thursday 8th December. To find your nearest stockist, use the store finder on Seymour or order online from Craft Stash. You can also purchase a digital edition of the magazine via the PocketMags app.

Do let me know if you make the poncho. I'm always so excited when I see that someone has used one of my patterns!
