What is Once-Upon-a-Make-along?

Once-Upon-a-Make-along is a craft event taking place during August and September 2025 where makers socialise online as they crochet items from a Medieval fairy tale inspired collection of patterns created by a team of seven talented designers.

Why should I join Once-Upon-a-Make-along?

Socialise with other crafters

The event takes place on Discord, which allows great opportunities for crafters to share what they're working on and applaud each other's finished makes both in text chat and during group live video chats, which are ideal for those who enjoy attending craft groups but don't have a local crochet group or perhaps don't find it easy to attend in-person events near them. There are several near me and all take place exactly when I need to collect my children from school, so I'm really looking forward to attending a virtual craft group and stitching along, cake and coffee nearby as I catch up with crafty friends, new and old. Those who prefer, are welcome to share their makes on other social media: Instagram and Facebook posts, Ravelry projects, or videos on your favourite video sharing site are all welcomed. Don't forget to use the event tag #OnceUponAMAL and tag the designer too so others can find your photo.

As well as the opportunity to socialise there are quizzes, games and a designer Q&A session where you can ask the designers questions about their work. And there are prizes to be won! Each finished item from created from a pattern in the bundle and shared in the Discord chat will be an entry in the draw. Get extra prize draw entries by: completing our three quizzes, making social media posts or a completing a Ravelry project page showing your finished item (by sharing a link to the post in Discord).

If the patterns in the bundle were on sale separately at the designers' usual prices, they would cost around £45. The bundle is priced at £22 (you'll see it in your local currency) and early birds who purchase the bundle ahead of the event between 8am UTC on the 11th August 2025 and 8am UTC on the 18th August 2025 will pay only £18 for seven high quality crochet patterns to create a range of items.

The Medieval fairy tale theme that inspired the patterns has resulted in the collection having a romantic and nostalgic aesthetic, featuring intriguing designs with intricate stitches. The collection is still to be revealed but includes options for those who love to make toys, accessories or homewares.

Do you ever wish you could ask a designer something when using one of their patterns? The designers of the patterns in the Once-Upon-a-Make-along bundle will be joining in the chat in the Discord Server, so feel free to ask any questions you have about the pattern or seek help if there's something you need help with. There will also be a designer Q&A session and those who buy the bundle can send us their question to answer in the session. The seven designers taking part are:

You'll arrive in the welcome room and can see a list of our text and voice channels on the left hand side if you're using a computer or in a pop out side menu if you're on a phone app. search out the announcements text channel to see what's going on and introduce yourself in the general chit-chat text channel. Our live video Sip and Stitch sessions will take place in the general video channel right at the end of the list.
