Why choose Unwinding Headband and Mitts Knitting Patterns?

These are warm and pretty accessories combining the comforting feel of a luxurious yarn with a glamorous vintage appearance, just perfect if you're in need of lightweight pieces that are eye catching and easy to use with a variety of indoor and outdoor outfits for the changeable weather we get through the cooler seasons.

some of my early knitting!

Inspired by swirling frosty patterns on metal surfaces in winter, these accessories feature snug feeling cables combined with a soft yarn to keep you cosy and chic. I worked up a gloves and headband set with a similar cable almost twenty years ago, just after I'd learnt to knit and I'm delighted to have written up a pattern and revived the set all these years later!

You’ll find this is a relaxing make overall with a few interesting details to keep you motivated.

It makes a wonderful gift, especially for someone who gets cold hands while carrying out tasks that require the dexterity of bare fingers or someone whose hairstyle isn't easily fitted in a winter hat and there are no rules against making a gift for yourself!

I worked up the set in Rowan Alpaca Soft DK, a lovely wool-alpaca blend which felt delightful and was a perfect balance of soft, springy and good stitch definition, I don't always block mittens but I was so glad I blocked these as the stitches looked much more even and the cables became beautifully defined and looked exactly as I'd hoped!

This pattern contains tips for those considering customising the length to ensure it fits perfectly, some yarn choice suggestions, alternative edgings and a guide to making full mittens instead of fingerless ones, so you can ensure you'll have just the set you want at the end.
