Why make the Ysoria Hood Crochet Pattern

This is a fun and fascinating project to create and I think it's perfect for the Autumn weather when we're never quite sure if the weather we leave home in will last the day and need cosy accessories to help us keep unexpected cold or windy weather at bay.
A yoked hood is ideal to cosy up on cooler days over your warm weather clothing if you like to continue wearing summer favourites after the temperatures fall. Add a coat when the days get frosty and it'll see you through the winter until it's time to get those summer clothes out again.
In aran/worsted yarn, its bold textures and fun stitches could work with a casual jeans outfit or create a romantic look with a long skirt or dress. For an evening occasion or winter wedding the kid silk laceweight version is the perfect cover-up, and it's sure to be a talking point! I'm looking forward to wearing both of my hoods throughout the coming seasons; it's going to be so much fun to wear.
This pattern works up quite fast and it's a great project if working the same stitch over and over makes you want to cast your project aside and start something new. It has plenty of different stitches so there's no chance of getting bored. In fact, I enjoyed making the aran/worsted sample so much that I wanted to start the kid silk one straight after and I still didn't have the square pattern memorised, so I looked forward to something interesting in every round!
How challenging is the Ysoria Hood Crochet Pattern?

It's not a difficult make but some of the techniques in the granny square are a little unusual. These ones have video clips to help you feel confident you've understood the instructions. also the construction is simple but perhaps a little hard to picture, so I've added a diagram for that as well. I hope that will help to make the project a relaxing experience for you.
Confession: I must have tried this on at every stage. My family members have all walked in to find me trying to hold half a dozen granny squares in place as I got excited to see how the finished result would look!

I worked up the sample in Drops Nepal, a fairly smooth aran/worsted wool alpaca blend. It has the cosy, soft texture necessary for the items worn at the neck and it has an amazing range of colours. I went for muted blue and grey tones inspired by womenswear in medieval paintings. For the evening version, I picked another Drops yarn, Kid Silk, in rose and cream for a romantic, feather-light version like a soft cloud around the wearer's head.
